MTPC Stands in Defiance Against Trump’s Executive Order
Tuesday, January 21, 2025
Sadly, yesterday’s trans-antagonistic attacks from the freshly inaugurated President Trump come as no surprise. Not only have he and members of his administration directly signaled these orders and plans as clear as day, the last few months of the presidential and legislative campaigns have largely been based on stoking fires of anti-trans sentiment.
Our first message, as always, is to our transgender and nonbinary community members. The US government has no power to tell anyone their gender or to force them to conform. The Executive Order signed yesterday will no doubt lead to negative consequences and an even more dangerous climate for transgender people in the US, but they cannot erase us. It has been said countless times before, but a world without transgender people has never existed and never will. We repudiate anyone’s claim that gender or sex can be limited to two categories or that transgender and nonbinary people are in any way a threat to anyone’s safety or privacy, or that intersex people do not exist. Finally, rest assured, MTPC is actively working to ensure not only the protection of our community in Massachusetts but also the advancement of lived equity for all transgender and nonbinary Bay Staters. We are proud to be supporting legislation and regulatory changes that will take much needed steps in doing so this year and in the coming years.
We now call each and every one of you to action. It is time to stand up for the rights, safety, and humanity of your trans and nonbinary friends, family, neighbors, and community members. Our queer and trans elders fought for our future and now is the time to fight for our future and a better future for those who come after us. When we say we are building a new future in which trans and nonbinary people can not just survive, but thrive, this is a future rooted in collective liberation. A future where everyone is free from the oppression of our bodies, minds, and spirits by any government. We will not back down and we urge you to join us in building a future worth fighting for.
