A Message from MTPC’s New Executive Director, Mason Dunn

Just as the wave cannot exist for itself, but is ever a part of the heaving surface of the ocean, so must I never live my life for itself, but always in the experience which is going on around me.  — Albert Schweitzer

It is a joy and honor to be in a position that brings me closer to the trans* community and deeper into the movement for full equal rights.

First, however, I must thank those who have made this organization and its continued success possible. I want to thank Gunner Scott and Jesse Begenyi for their amazing work at the helm of MTPC over the past months and years. I also would like to thank Nancy Nangeroni, Maxwell Ng, and the other members of the MTPC Steering Committee for their outstanding leadership and guidance. And thank you to the army of volunteers and interns who have lovingly donated their time and talents to MTPC over the years. Each of you has been a pivotal part of this organization, and without you we would not be where we are today.

And now to the future! We have come so far as an organization and a justice movement, yet we still have a long way to go. Moving forward, I know many of us have our eyes on adding public accommodations protections to the current equal rights laws. Passing the Equal Access Bill (House Bill 1589/Senate Bill 643) is certainly a major focus for me, and I am eager to work with you on this process.

I’m also looking forward to the launch of the Community Advocate Program, which will provide leadership training and support for community members across the state. Additionally, I want to take this opportunity to hear from members representing the entire Massachusetts trans* community: from Lowell to Springfield to the Cape. Please, if you have any questions for me, or if there’s anything I can do, don’t hesitate to email me at MasonDunn@masstpc.org. There are some great projects in the works here at MTPC, and I’m eager to take part in our continued growth!

Thank you again for making MTPC’s successes possible. I look forward to working with you all soon!
