Gender identity is not explicitly included in the state's anti-discrimination law (see MTPC's legislation page), but several court cases and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination have ruled that transgender individuals can pursue an anti-discrimination claim under the category of sex or disability discrimination. Employers, housing authorities, public services, and other entities may not be aware of the protections effectively accorded to transgender people by such rulings.
