Tell Your Story!

To effectively advocate against discrimination, we need to tell our stories, both negative and positive. For this, we need YOUR story. If you've suffered discrimination or special help or support at any time because of your gender, share your story with us. However great or small, you'll be helping us tell our story to those who will vote on trans equality in Massachusetts.

Help us pass MA Transgender Civil Rights legislation!

NEW April 23, 2010

Write a letter to the editor

Download sample letters (below) and personalize your letter to your local paper. Letters to the editor help to educate the public and your legislators. This is a great way to use our voices for transgender rights.

Contact your State Representative and Senator

There are several ways you can do this:

  1. Call your legislators
  2. Meet in person:
Ask your legislator to support the IMMEDIATE passage of the transgender civil rights bill. To prepare, just follow these easy steps:
    1. CLICK HERE to find your elected Senator and Representative. Note their names, phone numbers, email addresses and room numbers.
    2. CLICK HERE to see if they're on the list of co-sponsors. NOTE if they are or not.
      • If they are, you'll be thanking them for sponsoring and asking them to please get this bill passed NOW. No more delay, please!
      • If they're not on the list, you'll be asking them to please support the passage of the transgender civil rights bill.
    3. Make an appointment with your Senator and Representative by phone or email.
    4. Let us know when you're going in; call 617-778-0519 or email .
    5. Equip yourself with what you want to say to them. A few major points is usually enough. The more personal and specific, the better. Tell them why you believe we need this bill.
    6. Go get 'em! Remember, you catch more bees with honey than with vinegar (be polite and friendly). Most reps like hearing from their constituents, so don't be shy. It's your right to have your opinion heard by your elected representative. It's what makes democracy real.
    7. Oh yeah, one more thing: afterwards, please let us know how it went!
Here's some helpful information that will answer most, if not all, of your questions: Please don't forget to let us know how it went: Report your results

  3. Write a personal letter:
Send it by postal mail. Personal handwritten letters get a lot of attention.
  4. Have your company/organization write a letter:
Ask them to tell their Representative and Senator that they support of the legislation.

Volunteer

  1. Submit your story. Personal stories are powerful educational tools and will help MTPC advocate with legislators by using your story as a real life example of why this law is needed.

  2. Donate. This campaign, like any other, takes money. Every little bit helps.

  Thanks for doing your part!
