DO YOUR PART

Contact the Judiciary Committee in support of H.1728/S.1687

actnow

We're asking people to submit written, rather than oral, testimony, for the convenience of the Committee. (You can also call the Jucidicary Committee at 617-722-2396). The hearing on "An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes" is happening July 14. The time to get your letters of support in is NOW.

Do more:
Ask family, friends, & co-workers
to support your rights

To submit your testimony, mail a copy of your written testimony to each of the committee chairs, as listed at the bottom of this page. Also - VERY IMPORTANT - please send a copy via email to testimony@masstpc.org.

Wondering what to write? Think about:

  • Why does this issue matter to you? (Do you care about civil rights, do you know trans people who have been discriminated against or harassed, etc)
  • Who do you know that is affected? (family member, partner, friend, co-worker, teacher, etc)
  • Why should legislators care? (You work/live/vote in MA, you are testifying about something personal or emotional that might affect their constituency, etc.)
  • What are the most important things you need to get across? Remember, the longer it is, the less impact it will likely make.

What everyone should include:

  • Your name and some identifying characteristic such as your work or your relationship to the transgender community.
  • Your connection to Massachusetts (where you live/work/vote/go to school).
  • The name and number of the bill you are testifying in support of. For Rep. O'Flaherty, the number is H.1728. For Sen. Creem, the number is S.1687. In both cases, the name of the bill is "An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes."
  • Why this issue is important to you and why the legislators should support it.

There is no length limit, but shorter is usually better. We suggest no more than 2 pages. (Wait, you haven't called or written to your legislators in support of H.1728/S.1687 yet? Go here to do that first!)
