Transgender Equal Rights Coalition Partners

MTPC continues the work of building a statewide coalition of partners to educate communities, legislators, and policy makers on anti-transgender discrimination and hate crimes. Our coalition succeeded on November 16, 2011, in securing passage of the legislation, "An Act Relative to Transgender Equal Rights", thanks to lead sponsors Representative Carl Sciortino & Byron Rushing, and Senators Ben Downing, and Sonia Chiang-Diaz.

This new non-discrimination and hate crimes law sends a clear message that transgender people in our communities should be able to work, go to school, and live without fear. Transgender people experience pervasive discrimination in many areas of ordinary life and high levels of crime. This legislation strengthens the Commonwealth's commitment to all people, including transgender people, having equal protection under the law and the chance to contribute to our communities and economy.

The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC) and the Transgender Equal Rights Coalition (TERC) will continue to work towards passage of non-discrimination protections in public accommodations. We ask you to please become a TERC Partner and help us complete the protections for transgender people that have been extended to other marginalized groups.

We will be listing partners on our website and materials, and making available other opportunities such as invitations to forums, educational sessions, and media.
