Legislative Coalition

MTPC is building a statewide coalition of partners to educate communities, legislators, and policy makers on transgender discrimination, hate crimes and the legislation, "An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes", which was re-introduced January 14, 2009, by lead sponsors, Representative Carl Sciortino, Representative Byron Rushing and Senator Ben Downing.

This legislation sends a clear message that transgender people in our communities should be able to work, go to school, and live without fear. Transgender people experience pervasive discrimination in many areas of ordinary life and high levels of crime. This legislation strengthens the Commonwealth's commitment to all people, including transgender people, having equal protection under the law and the chance to contribute to our communities and economy.

The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC) supports this legislation and we are asking your organization to do the same. Please become a Transgender Civil Rights Coalition Partner.

We will be listing partners on our website and materials, and making available other opportunities such as invitations to forums, educational sessions, and media.
