On behalf of Organization/Business Name, I am writing in support of House Bill #1722 "An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes," which has been introduced by Representatives Carl Sciortino and Byron Rushing. We believe that this legislation is compatible with our purpose as an organization and with good business practice with regard to the treatment of employees, clients, stakeholders, and the general public.

This legislation would also help guide our own employment and client services policies by making clear what our rights and responsibilities are. The Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) has already interpreted state law to protect all people, including transgender persons, from discrimination based on gender identity or expression. By making this protection explicit, uniform and clearly visible in the law, it is easier for us to design policies that follow the law.
