Transgender Day of Remembrance

The annual Day of Remembrance memorializes individuals who have been killed throughout the world in the previous year because of anti-transgender hatred. Between the 2008 and 2009 events, 163 people are known to have been murdered because of their gender identity or gender expression.

Berkshire 2009 TDOR Observance

Friday, November 20 at Chapin Lawn, Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts

Williams College hosted a candlelight vigil in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance. State Senator Ben Downing was the featured speaker, and some community members spoke briefly.

Greenfield 2009 TDOR Observance

Friday November 20, Town Commons, Main Street, Greenfield (Downtown at the intersection of Main & Federal)

Community Action Youth Programs TREE (Transgender Education and Empowerment) youth and guests honored those killed due to anti-transgender violence. This event is a chance for community members and youth to address violence and transphobia in their own communities, and included a Candle light vigil, Reading of the names, and Moment of silence.

Worcester 2009 TDOR Observance

Friday, November 20 at All Saints Church & Hilton Garden Inn, Worcester

AIDS Project Worcester hosted a service at the All Saints Church, Irving Street, Worcester, MA. Also, Transcending Boundaries and AIDS Project Worcester hosted a Day of Remembrance reception following the vigil at the Hilton Garden Inn, Worcester, with refreshments, along with an Open Mic.
